Stars in the Heavens

4" x 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" low fire red clay and underglazes

This figure of Rudy Autio was created as a gift for his family in 2007.

As a former Graduate student in Ceramics at the University of Montana, I have fond memories of the fun we students had with Rudy Autio and the wonderful Autio family. We sang folk songs with guitar, and made and ate delicious Finnish Pasties. It was always fascinating to see Rudy at work in his studio. He was very kind and supportive.

Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts, Newcastle, Maine, sent me 25 pounds of their red clay. I was one of several ceramic artists chosen for kiln god residencies. We were asked to make mini figures, colored only with underglaze, for their Gala 2007 fund raiser, held at the Chicago Art Institute.
